Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses: Being a Ferengi, Quark has extremely good hearing and a very good mind for numbers. His race is also immune to telepathy and far better at combating viruses that infect other species. As a bartender, he seems to be pretty good at mixing drinks and occasionally making food.
His weakness for capital gain is pretty pronounced. If there's money involved, it's likely he'll have a hard time resisting. He also has a bit of a weakness for feisty woman, which has gotten him into some deep trouble more than once. His phenomenal hearing can be a double edged sword as well- since loud and high pitched noises cause him great pain.
World Info: Deep Space 9 is set in the Star Trek universe, which is basically in the future where space flight and interstellar travel are commonplace. Deep space 9 itself is a space station returned to the custody of the Bajorans after the end of the long Cardassian occupation. Weakened by war, the Bajoran people called upon Star Fleet to help them maintain their space station while they recovered until they were strong enough to run it themselves again. A mysterious wormhole suddenly appeared nearby and was discovered to be a stable short cut to the other side of the galaxy. Deep Space 9 and its residents regularly deal with traffic going in and out of the wormhole and the constant vying over its control by the other alien races in the quadrant. Since the station is populated by most-if not all of these aliens- getting along often gets interesting.

What would you like your character's tag to be?: Quark
Answer the following questions in no less than 300 words but no greater than 1000 words put together...
Character's background (their past and present): Quark was born to Keldar and Ishka with a younger brother named Rom. Once he was of age he left home to seek his fortune. At one point he was an apprenticed to a sub-nagus (title given to a in charge of a particular district on Ferenginar) but was fired for getting involved with his employer's sister. He also spent 8 years working as a cook on a Ferengi freighter. After saving up enough money, he bought a bar on Deep Space Nine with gambling games and access to private holosuites. Throughout his stay on the station numerous disasters have been averted, ownership has changed hands, money has been earned and lost, and friends and enemies made.
Character's personality: The most obvious part of Quark's personality and the one he wants you to notice first is how charming he is. It's clear he's very practiced at sounding accommodating and friendly with just a hint of mischief. You want to buy things from him, you want to talk to him at the bar, and maybe you even want to see him later in the holosuites. He knows what kind of food and drink your species prefers, what kind of music is famous on your planet, and he's always up on all the latest gossip . He's well-dressed, well-spoken, and even though his smile is full of sharp teeth the rest of him is so nonthreatening that you forget.
Except if you know him well enough. Because if you know Quark, you know he probably has some scheme in mind. There isn't an hour in the day when Quark isn't thinking about how best to turn a profit. His brother Rom once remarked irritably that he was so preoccupied with it that he mumbled constantly about it in his sleep. Quark has a sharp mind, a good sense for opportunity, and a tendency to dream big. Ferengi morals ensure that his conscience never gets pricked when the party on the receiving end of his schemes are cheated. Within reason. Despite his selfish quest for profit, he doesn't like to see other people get hurt. Just their wallets.
Which brings up a part of his personality that is not usual for a Ferengi. Quark actually has a good deal of compassion. He balks at selling weapons to warring factions and he even sold medicine and food to Bajorans at cost during the occupation. What Quark thinks is an acceptable loss might be a little shocking to humans, his fellow Ferengi find him to be way too soft. Sadly, this is a big part of why Quark has not managed to climb the financial ladder in the Ferengi business world even though he so desperately wants to. He simply is not ruthless enough.
Not unexpectedly, this has left him very conflicted. Quark really wants to be a model Ferengi- rich, successful, and unbothered by stepping on others to get to the top. And he tries- he even modeled his business strategies after the Grand Nagus. But somehow his conscience always gets to him in the end. For this, the other Ferengi view him as a failure. And yet, he's constantly looked down upon by the other races on the space station as well, who view him as just another greedy merchant out to grab people's money at all costs. So Quark is stuck in the middle. Not Ferengi enough for Ferengis but not Non-Ferengi enough for the other space station inhabitants. Worse, a bid to appeal to either side gets him in trouble with the other.

Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.: A copy of the Rules of Acquisition, a data padd, and a couple slips of gold pressed latinum.
Are you bringing your character to
ten_fwd from another game? If you are, which game?: No.
If you answered yes above, briefly summarize how they were changed by and what challenges they faced in the climate of their previous game(s):
Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them? Looking forward to playing this character in a Star Trek based context! Quark is a great character for CR, he's always interested in everyone's business, especially if he thinks it can help HIS business. He's easy to make friends or enemies with and I'm confident I can get him involved in people's plot lines. And hey, if he starts his bar? There's a nice location for everyone to hang out in.
ADDENDUM: Loved the game when I was in it and now I have that amazing thing called 'more time'! Quark is still easy to use to get into other people's business and using him in a Star Trek themed game universe means he's got a home turf advantage. More DS9 cast and characters from other ST series is a bonus! Hoping to stir everyone up a bit with some hijinks.
